Melanie Waldman's photo of Manele Bay, Lanai, Hawaii

Melanie Waldman, who writes the Travels with Two blog and is one of our Artists in Residence, explored the comforts of finding “home” with her husband Adam on Lānaʻi in May 2011. Her adventures describe the wonderful contrast in the island hotels, from the living environments to eateries and local ecosystems.

Melanie’s posts are filled with photos of her experiences.

Axis deer on the island of Lanai in Hawaii (Daily Travel Photo, Gary Arndt)

Gary Arndt, our fourth member of our New Media Artist-in-Residence Program, writes (and photographs) for his Everything Everywhere blog. From his visit to Lānaʻi he offers several lush photographs showing the color and diversity of this magic place. One of our hotels made it to Gary’s Top Ten list, which really says a lot given Gary’s globetrotting adventures and experiences. Plus, he was selected for a featured photo essay on TheAtlantic.com. Thank you for loving Lānaʻi so much Gary!

Take in the lovely imagery and background detail of Lānaʻi.

Chris Gray Faust on the snuba adventure

Chris Gray Faust was our second New Media Artist-in-Residence. She visited Lanai in February 2011. Her blog entries really convey the unique and special aspects of the island of Lānaʻi – what is often referred to as a private island. It has the tropical beauty you expect of Hawaii, yet it also has a landscape and activities not easily found on the other islands.

Please enjoy Chris’s articles which are filled with photos by the way!

Dolphins off Lana'i (Go Visit Hawaii)

Sheila Beal, author of the travel blog Go Visit Hawaii, took us on several lively adventures: snorkeling, horseback riding, off-road with a Jeep, and more. She also stopped to take in the wonderful flowers and sunsets. Be sure to check her great photos and videos – and those of her assistant (and also husband) Andy Beal, a social media guru and excellent photographer as well. They make a great team, don’t they?

Melanie and Adam Waldman

Our next New Media Artist to visit Lānaʻi is Melanie Waldman, creator of the Travels with Two blog. Melanie Waldman and her husband is Adam live in Los Angeles and work full-time, traveling as often as they possibly can.  Their blog focuses on couples travel; Melanie recently covered the Royal Wedding! Her direct advice to couples: “BOTH OF YOU: STEP AWAY FROM YOUR WORK…AND GET THE HECK OUT OF DODGE.”

Here is how Melanie describes her life:

I do the writing (and most of the photography) here at Travels With Two. Adam owns an entertainment advertising company, which keeps him busy an average of  60 hours a week. We have a house, a garden, a dog and a large circle of friends. Our families are spread out amongst the east and west coasts of the United States, and we visit (and travel with) them as often as we can. In short, it can be complicated for us to get away together. So, we prioritize it in small chunks of the future, like teeth cleanings and tire rotations…only with more joy. Sometimes our trips take us across town and sometimes across the world, but they’re always driven by a desire to reconnect and have new experiences that become part of our story.

Please connect with Melanie and Adam at any of these locations on line, and be sure to follow Travels with Two on Twitter (and follow Adam too!) for updates before, during, and after their stay here in the Hawaiian Islands.

Sheila and Andy Beal

Our next New Media Artist to visit Lānaʻi is Sheila Beal, creator of the Go Visit Hawaii blog. Though her home base is North Carolina, Sheila has a tremendous enthusiasm for visiting the Aloha State. Her articles resonate with visitors because they are all written from the visitor’s perspective. She understands the challenges of planning a vacation to Hawaiʻi based on her own experiences and so she’s able to help visitors make their plans in a very practical way.

Sheila’s husband, Andy, provides the photography and videos for Go Visit Hawaii. Together, they’re a dynamic duo for Hawaii vacation planning.

Please connect with Sheila and Andy at any of these locations on line, and be sure to follow Sheila on Twitter (and follow Andy too!) for updates before, during, and after their stay here in the Hawaiian Islands.

Cool tide pools along the Puʻupehe Trail; that's Four Seasons Manele Bay in the background.

The adventures of Kara S. Williams, of The Vacation Gals blog, along with friend Kristina, took different forms, from hiking the extraordinary terrain and around tidepools, to riding a Jeep around the countryside, and experiencing views of the deep with Scuba instructor Shigeki Ichinose. All in all, a visit not to be missed!
